Assessment & Placement

A clear journey from study to observation

Learners must pass all 10 units and complete practical placement during the course in a nursery or school setting. After completing the required placement hours, learners go through three direct observations with the required early years age groups.

10 Units

Complete all required units covering child development, safeguarding, communication, health, wellbeing, curriculum, assessment, play, SEND, and partnership working.

350 Placement Hours

Learners need to be working or volunteering during the course in a nursery or school to complete the practical placement requirement.

3 Direct Observations

Direct observations are completed after placement hours, covering the required early years age categories.

Enrolment Guidance

Relevant educational background such as high school, college certificate, or CACHE Level 2.
Intermediate English readiness is recommended for Arabic-speaking learners.
Admission is reviewed based on the learner’s background, current role, English level, and placement readiness.

Practical experience across early years age groups

The placement structure helps learners gain exposure to different stages of early childhood development and prepare for professional practice in nurseries and early years settings.

0–1 Year 25 hours focused on infant care and early development.
2–3 Years 133 hours supporting toddlers’ routines, communication, and learning.
3–5 Years 192 hours supporting preschool learning, play, curriculum, and assessment.
Observations 3 direct observations after placement hours are completed.
Flexible Online Study

Live Zoom learning with guided support

Learners study through online live sessions via Zoom. The learning journey includes tutor support, assessor support, administrator support, assessment, and NCFE CACHE certification.

AETC also supports learners through access to learning materials, recorded Zoom sessions, assignment uploads, grades, and guidance through the learning management platform.
